— Sun Invite Fans to Support Brittney Griner’s Annual Philanthropic Event —

Uncasville, CT (August 14, 2026) – Today, the Connecticut Sun announced that the team, in partnership with Sun center Brittney Griner, will host the 2026 BG’s Heart and Sole Shoe Drive. Founded by Griner in 2016 after recognizing the need for proper footwear among unhoused individuals in Arizona’s extreme heat, the annual initiative aims to provide shoes and support to community members experiencing homelessness.

Fans can contribute by donating new shoes at any of the following Connecticut Sun home games:

August 15 vs. New York Liberty

August 18 vs. Los Angeles Sparks

August 25 vs. Chicago Sky

August 26 vs. Golden State Valkyries

“I’ve always been a person that wanted to give back,” said Brittney Griner. “[I’ve] always wanted to help out people less fortunate than me, people that society kind of turns their [backs] on, because I can kind of relate with them.”

Supporters who are unable to attend a game can also make donations by purchasing items directly from the team’s Amazon Wishlist.

All donations collected through the shoe drive will benefit the New London Homeless Hospitality Center, helping provide essential footwear and resources to individuals in need throughout the local community.

“Many of our guests arrive with only one pair of shoes, often worn out or poorly fitting. A safe, comfortable pair can make an enormous difference—not only in getting to appointments, jobs and essential services, but also in beginning to heal and overcome the barriers to becoming unhoused,” said Annah Perch, the Development Manager of the New London Homeless Hospitality Center. “We are deeply grateful to Brittney Griner and the Connecticut Sun for meeting this important need and showing our guests that their community cares.”

Established in 2003, the Connecticut Sun is a professional women’s basketball team in the Women’s National Basketball Association that takes residence at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT. For additional information or to purchase season tickets, visit www.connecticutsun.com.
