Connecticut Sun Celebrate American Heart Month
Uncasville, CT (February 20, 2025) – The Connecticut Sun celebrated American Heart Month by hosting and supporting events and initiatives throughout the month of February. From community conversations to clinics, the Sun was dedicated to bringing awareness to heart disease and heart-healthy lifestyles. See below for events the Sun hosted and supported:
National Wear Red Day
On Monday, February 2 members of the Connecticut Sun front office staff and Sun Community Council members wore red in support of National Wear Red Day. This initiative supports women’s cardiovascular health by wearing red, sharing information and resources, and donating to support research and education. Cardiovascular disease is the number one illness that affects women and the American Heart Association encourages people to wear red to raise awareness and make an impact.
Greenwich Boys and Girls Club
The Connecticut Sun hosted a free basketball clinic at the Greenwich Boys and Girls Club on Wednesday, February 11 for 110 youth. The attendees also participated in Black History Month and heart health trivia led by Stonepoint Capital. Sun Academy coaches Denisha Gardener and Isaiah Rutherford then showed the youth heart pumping skills and drills to keep everyone moving.
Heart to Heart Community Council x Sun Ray Meeting
Returning to the New London Recreation Center, the Connecticut Sun hosted a joint community council meeting with the Sun Ray Advisory Council and the Sun Community Council. Both groups concluded the meeting with a tour of the facilities and participation in a heart circuit. They had the opportunity to go through two stations including a dance station led by Connecticut Sun Game Presentation Manager Grace Bisgyer and a strength and conditioning station led by the Sun’s Strength and Conditioning Coach Analisse Rios.
