Minnesota Lynx 79, Connecticut Sun 74 (OT)

  • The Connecticut Sun was defeated by the Minnesota Lynx 79-74 in overtime on Sunday night. The Sun fell to 6-2 and are now 0-2 in overtime games this season. The Lynx picked up their first win of the season and stand at 1-4 overall.
  • The Sun ended the first quarter up 27-15. The Lynx came out in the second on a 7-0 run to cut the Sun’s lead down to five (27-22) with six minutes remaining in the quarter. Connecticut didn’t see its first basket until Brionna Jones went to the foul line with 4:56 on the clock. Minnesota outscored Connecticut 18-10 that quarter but the Sun held the advantage headed into the half (37-33).
  • Minnesota outscored Connecticut in the third (17-15) and came within two points (52-50) at the end of the quarter.
    With 2:35 left to play, the Lynx went on an 8-0 run which included two back-to-back three-point field goals. At the end of regulation, the score was tied at 63 apiece. With a 1:06 left in overtime, Minnesota held on to a three-point lead (75-72) and eventually finished with a five-point advantage.
  • The Sun had three players score in double figures in the win.
  • Jonquel Jones recorded a team-high 22 points, this is the fifth time she’s led the Sun in scoring this season. Sixteen of her points came in the second half after only scoring six in the first.
  • Dewanna Bonner finished close behind with 18 points and tied the team-high rebounds (6) and assists (5). Bonner also notched her 23rd consecutive 10+ point game.
  • Jasmine Thomas notched her third game in double-figures with 14 points. She shot fifty percent from behind the arc (2-4). She also dished five assists where her 1200th career assist. She currently sits 18th all-time in WNBA history and second all-time in Connecticut Sun franchise history with 881.
  • Brionna Jones scored seven points and grabbed six rebounds.
  • Natisha Hiedeman also reached a career milestone on the night. She tallied one assist which marked the 100th of her career. She also added two points, one steal and one block on the evening.
  • Sylvia Fowles led Minnesota with 24 points and recorded a game-high nine rebounds.
  • In her first game with the Lynx, Layshia Clarendon came off the bench and scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds.
  • Kayla McBride and Napheesa Collier followed with 11 points, respectively. Collier and Damiris Dantas each scored three three-point field goals which accounted for six of the team’s 10.
  • Connecticut was outrebounded by Minnesota 38-28. This was only the third time the Sun have been outrebounded this season. The previous two times the team was only outrebounded by one. The Lynx also outscored the Sun in the paint (28-22) though the Sun put up more second chance points (12-8).
