The Connecticut Sun (1-0) defeated the Atlanta Dream (0-1) 78-67 in the season opener on Friday night in Atlanta, Ga. Jonquel Jones made her return to the WNBA hardwood and posted a team-high 26 points. The Sun looks to keep the momentum going when the team hosts the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday, May 15 at 7pm EST in the home opener. The game will be air on NESN and CBSSN.

Connecticut Notes:
  • The Sun started off the season 1-0 with a win against the Atlanta Dream. The win comes after the team only had two practices during training camp with Jonquel Jones in attendance and one with Briann January.
  • Jonquel Jones returned for her first Connecticut Sun game since Game 5 of the 2019 WNBA Finals, 582 days ago.
  • DeWanna Bonner came close behind with 21 points and seven rebounds.
  • In just the fifth start in the WNBA, Natisha Hiedeman nearly notched the​ first double-double of her career. She tallied nine points, a career-high eight rebounds and dished out three assists.
  • DiJonai Carrington, Aleah Goodman and Stephanie Jones competed in their first WNBA game.
  • Curt Miller improved to 90-69 overall and now sits tied with Corey Gaines at No. 16 on the all-time wins list. Miller reached this milestone with only 159 games coached while Gaines reached it in 191 games.
  • As a team, the Sun forced 13 Dream turnovers and converted that into 18 points.
Atlanta Notes:
  • The Dream received a majority of its scoring from four players, all who reached double-figures.
  • Courtney Williams and Odyssey Sims finished with 14 points, Tianna Hawkins 11 and Chennedy Carter 10.
  • Monique Billings caused issues in the paint for the Sun offensively. Off the bench, Billings blocked four shots.
  • The Sun and Dream both scored 28 points in the paint.
