Connecticut Sun Announce 20th Anniversary Season

Uncasville, CT (February 15, 2022) – Today, the Connecticut Sun announced details of our 20th Anniversary season and unveiled their 20th Anniversary logo to commemorate their two decades in Connecticut. The logo, which celebrates the franchise’s platinum year, features the current Connecticut Sun logo with a 20th Anniversary demarcation and keeps the Sun’s orange, blue and white color scheme. Furthermore, there will be a special platinum version of the 20th Anniversary logo that will be used in the arena throughout the season.

In addition to the logo, the Sun has launched an inspirational one-word tagline for their 20th Anniversary season that represents both the team and fan experience: RISE. While the Sun continues to rise in skill and success on the court—with a level of play that brings fans to their feet—RISE also speaks to the team’s integrity; the ways in which we rise together for social justice and to support our communities; and our ability to focus on excellence with every step, to raise the game. Together, the Sun and our fans will always rise to a higher purpose.

To tip off the 2022 season, the Sun will face the New York Liberty at Barclays Center on Saturday, May 7 at 6:00 P.M. A week later, the team’s home opener and 20th Anniversary celebration will take place at Mohegan Sun Arena on Saturday, May 14 against the Los Angeles Sparks with a 7:00 P.M. tip off.

During opening night, the Connecticut Sun will celebrate the career of WNBA legend Asjha Jones, honoring her contributions to the Sun franchise during her nine-year stint with the organization from 2004-2012. Jones’ No. 15 will join Margo Dydek (12), Nykesha Sales (42), Katie Douglas (23), and Lindsay Whalen (13) in the rafters during a special ceremony. Jones, who was the fourth overall pick in the 2002 WNBA Draft and traded to Connecticut in a three-team deal with the Phoenix Mercury and Washington Mystics in 2004, played in 271 games for the Sun, starting in 175 of them. She averaged 12.31 points, 5.34 rebounds, 1.87 assists, 0.63 steals and 0.54 blocks a game in a Connecticut Sun uniform. In all-time Connecticut Sun history, Jones is first in points (3,336) and rebounds (1,447), fourth in blocks (147), sixth in assists (506), and eighth in steals (171). As a member of the franchise, Jones was a two-time WNBA All-Star in 2007 and 2009; received Eastern Conference Player of the Week four times (6/3/07, 6/29/08, 07/27/08, 07/26/09); made the All-WNBA Second Team in 2008; and helped the Connecticut Sun clinch the Eastern Conference regular season title and reach the WNBA Finals in 2004 and 2005.

Throughout the season, there will be many ways in which Sun fans can participate and play an active part in our 20th Anniversary celebration. For the next 48 hours, the Sun will be offering 2003 pricing on tickets for the Home Opener, starting at $8. Starting in April, fans may enter to win the Connecticut Sun’s Ultimate Fan Package Sweepstakes.
