The Connecticut Sun is excited to announce its theme nights for the 2021 season. The Sun have seven remaining home games all of which are set to feature a different specialty experience.

On Tuesday, Aug. 17 and Thursday, Aug. 19, the Sun welcome the Minnesota Lynx to town. For the first theme night of the season, Yale New Haven Health will present Community Night. The Sun will honor an assortment of essential workers from Connecticut and highlight their selfless dedication and contributions to the community, particularly for the past year. There will also be a Back to School Drive in partnership with United Way. Fans are encouraged to bring school supplies to help benefit the local school districts. Connecticut’s annual Breast Health Awareness Night, also presented by Yale New Haven Health, will be held on Thursday the 19th. The evening will serve to increase awareness of the disease, recognize those whose lives have been impacted by cancer as well as help raise funds for cancer research. Proceeds will benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

The following week fans can expect three nights of excitement. Tuesday, Aug. 24, the Sun face the Las Vegas Aces on the WNBA 25th Anniversary Night. Connecticut will celebrate the WNBA’s 25th Anniversary with a mini blast from the past. The night will incorporate music and concession prices from 1997, the year of the WNBA’s inception.

Thursday, Aug. 26 and Saturday, Aug. 28, Los Angeles will visit the Mohegan Sun Arena for a two-game series. This will be the first time the Sun compete against the Sparks during the 2021 season. Family Fun Night will take place on Thursday and on Sunday the Sun’s first-ever Change Can’t Wait game will take place.

The mission of Change Can’t Wait (CCW) –the Sun’s social justice platform—is to create positive change for all marginalized groups with a focus on black and brown communities within Connecticut and New England, through year-round partnerships, advocacy, events, educational initiatives & materials and player appearances that move to eradicate systemic racism and oppression. This night will include programing for the newly revised program with information on the pillars of CCW and the resources it has to offer. Local business and community partners of Change Can’t Wait will be spread throughout the concourse and recognized for their positive contributions to the community during the game.

Connecticut will conclude the regular season with two home games in September. On Wednesday, Sept. 15, the New York Liberty arrive for a 7pm contest on Pride Night, presented by Bacardi. The night will encompass a special anthem and halftime performance, a number of special video board features and an after party at novelle, one of Mohegan’s premium lounge experiences. This 21+ event hosted by Bacardi will require a $10 cover charge that will support the Connecticut Sun foundation in giving back to the community throughout the year. Food and drink special will also be available from 10pm-12am.

The Sun’s theme nights conclude with a Fan Appreciation Game, presented by Liberty Bank on Sunday, Sep. 19. Fan Appreciation will be an afternoon for the Connecticut Sun to celebrate the best fans in the WNBA and show appreciation for their unwavering support through a day filled with fun and giveaways.

Fans can also look forward to many other special presentations and recognitions during select games. As a reminder, Sun point guard and captain, Jasmine Thomas has partnered with Sharing Shoes to collect new and gently worn basketball shoes for under-served athletes. For more information on Sharing Shoes or to donate, head to sharingshoes.org.
