Connecticut Sun Acquire Rights to Tiffany Hayes

Connecticut sends the No. 6 pick to Atlanta

Uncasville, CT (February 9, 2023) – The Connecticut Sun has acquired the rights to veteran shooting guard, Tiffany Hayes in a trade with the Atlanta Dream, the team announced today. As a part of the trade, the Sun send the No. 6 pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft to the Dream.

“We’re super excited to add Tiffany to our roster,” remarked Sun General Manager, Darius Taylor. “Tiffany is a two-way played that can score at all three levels and her ability and experience will be welcomed. Tiffany has personified our ‘grit don’t quit’ mentality her entire career and we look forward to her being a part of our organization.”

Hayes, a ten-year league veteran, has spent her entire career in Atlanta. The 5-10 guard was selected 14th overall by the Dream in the 2012 WNBA Draft out of the University of Connecticut. In 2022, Hayes played in 12 contests, missing the majority of the season due to overseas obligations and a right knee injury. She averaged 14.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists per contest. Her best performance last season came in a 92-76 victory over the Las Vegas Aces where she tallied a season-high 31 points, along with three rebounds, one assist and one steal.

Over the course of her seasoned career, Hayes has picked up First Team All-WNBA (2018), WNBA All-Defensive Second Team (2018), WNBA All-Rookie Team (2012) and WNBA All-Star (2017) honors. She is also one of only five active WNBA players with over 3,800 points, 900 rebounds, 650 assists and 300 steals in her career.

Hayes is no stranger to Connecticut, after having a successful collegiate career with the Huskies from 2008-2012. The Florida native left UConn a two-time NCAA National Champion (2009, 2010) behind back-to-back undefeated seasons. She also picked up All-BIG EAST First Team (2011) and BIG EAST All-Freshman Team (2009) honors during her time in Connecticut.

Hayes is currently playing overseas in Turkey for CBK Mersin alongside Connecticut Sun forward, DeWanna Bonner. She is currently averaging 16.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists as CBK Mersin sits atop Turkish League standings with a record of 16-2.

The Sun tip off the 2023 season on Friday, May 19 at the Indiana Fever at 7:00 PM EST.
