Uncasville, CT (June 24, 2023) – Connecticut Sun center Brionna Jones, who suffered a ruptured right Achilles tendon during Tuesday’s game, underwent a successful reparative surgery yesterday afternoon. Jones will miss the rest of the 2023 season, and no timetable has been set for her return.
Jones sustained the injury with 1:05 left in the Sun’s 85-79 win against the Seattle Storm on June 20. She had 13 points, four rebounds, three assists, and a steal before being helped off the court. The reparative surgery was performed by Dr. Nicholas Seibert of the Swedish Orthopedic Institute-Seattle.

All of the love I’ve received has truly been a blessing as I’ve gone through this tough time,” Jones remarked. “While this is not how I envisioned this season ending for me, I am determined and ready to head into the next stage of recovery and rehab. I know I have an amazing support system behind me, and I will return on the other side of this stronger than ever. I’m definitely going to miss competing every night with this incredible group of women the most, but I am excited to see this team continue to flourish and accomplish great things this season.”
The 6-3 forward from Havre de Grace, Maryland has averaged 9.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, 0.9 assists, and 1.0 steals in 19.3 minutes per game throughout her career. During her seven years in the league, Jones has been named the 2021 WNBA Most Improved Player, 2022 WNBA and AP Sixth Player of the Year, and a two-time WNBA All-Star (2021, 2022). A player known for her offensive-rebounding prowess, averaging 2.1 per game during her career; at the time of her injury, Jones was first in the league in offensive rebounds (3.2), fifth in steals (1.8), ninth in field goal percentage (57.1), 10th in rebounds (8.2), and 20th in scoring (15.9).
