Alyssa Thomas Named Kia WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Month- July 2022

Uncasville, CT (August 2, 2022) – Connecticut Sun forward Alyssa Thomas was named the Kia WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Month, the league announced today. This marks the second time in Thomas’s eight-year professional career that she takes home Eastern Conference Player of the Month honors and the second time this season.

 

During the month of July, Thomas averaged 14.1 points, 8.4 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 2.4 steals per game, as the Sun went 7-3 in regular season play. She has started in all 30 games for Connecticut this season and is currently leading the team in assists (6.1), steals (1.7) and minutes played (32.7) per game.

 

In the Sun’s 94-84 win over the Lynx on July 22, Thomas recorded the first triple-double in franchise history and the first for her WNBA career, with 15 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists. Other notable performances for Thomas in the month of July include the Sun’s overtime victory over the Mystics on July 3 where she had 23 points, nine rebounds, two assists, one steal and two blocks in 41 minutes played. In Sunday’s overtime loss to Chicago, Thomas filled the stat sheet with 22 points, seven rebounds, eight assists and five steals.

 

This is the ninth time a Connecticut Sun player has receive the Player of the Month accolade, with Thomas being just the third player in the franchise to have received the honor [Tina Charles (3) – June 2011; June, July (2012) | Jonquel Jones (4) – June 2017; May, August, September 2021].

Thomas and the Sun return to action tonight against the Phoenix Mercury at 7:00 PM EST at Mohegan Sun Arena.
