Last Game: The Connecticut Sun won 84-71 at home over the Seattle Storm on Tuesday August 8th. The Dallas Wings fell 101-100 at home to the Phoenix Mercury on Thursday, August 10th.

Players to Watch: Connecticut – Jonquel Jones leads Connecticut this season in both scoring (15.9 ppg) and rebounding (11.5 rpg). She finished with 20 points, 14 rebounds, three assists and three blocks against Seattle. Alyssa Thomas is tied for the team lead in assists (4.8 apg), ranks second in rebounding (6.5 rpg) and third in scoring (14.2 ppg). She had 17 points, eight rebounds and three assists against the Storm. Jasmine Thomas is tied for the team lead in assists (4.8 apg) and ranks second in scoring (14.7 ppg). She sat out Tuesday’s game with a left ankle sprain.

Dallas – Skylar Diggins-Smith leads Dallas this season in both scoring (18.2 ppg) and assists (5.6 apg). She posted 13 points, five rebounds and three assists against Phoenix. Glory Johnson leads the Wings in rebounding (8.8 rpg) and is second in scoring (14.3 ppg). She had 25 points, 15 rebounds and five assists against the Mercury. Allisha Gray leads the team in steals. She had 19 points, six rebounds and four steals Thursday.

Noteworthy:
• Connecticut looks to even the season series after falling 96-82 to Dallas at College Park Center on June 25th in the first meeting between the teams.
• Jonquel Jones (14 points, 12 rebounds) and Alyssa Thomas (19 points, five rebounds and five assists) led the way for the Sun in the loss (6/25).
• Karima Christmas-Kelly (24 points, three rebounds), Theresa Plaisance (16 points, nine rebounds) and Skylar Diggins-Smith (15 points, nine assists) led the Wings in the first meeting.
• Connecticut leads the league in scoring average (86.8 ppg) and three point percentage (.391), ranks third in both rebounding (35.8 rpg) and steals (8.12 spg) and is fourth in field goal percentage (.457).
• Two Sun players finished with 20 or more points against Seattle (Williams 27, Jones 20). The last time the team did this was on July 1st at Indiana (Jones 29, Jasmine Thomas 22).
• The Sun are now 12-0 this season when shooting more free throws than the opponent.
• Williams set career-highs of 27 points on 12 made field goals against Seattle. It was her fourth straight game in double figures and third game with 20 or more points this season. She also surpassed 200 career made field goals in the game.
• Jones posted her fifth straight double-double (15th of the season) and seventh game with 20 or more points. It was her ninth straight game in double figures and 21st of the season. She currently leads the WNBA in rebounding (11.5 rpg).
• Alyssa Thomas posted her sixth straight game in double figures (19th of the season). She also set a new single-season career-high in made field goals (133).
• Shekinna Stricklen collected a career-high five steals against the Storm.
• Kayla Thornton scored a career-high 15 points against Phoenix.

On the spark that Courtney (Williams) gave in the fourth quarter against Seattle:
“Unbelievable. JJ (Jonquel Jones) and Courtney came alive. We were missing some shots we were capable of making but Courtney got going and then we just rode her and it’s tiring chasing her around. She has boundless energy and then when you’re chasing her around, screens, screens, and we really got going. JJ was a real factor, it may not say it on the stat sheet with, necessarily, blocks. But they got into the paint and she was disrupting finishes around the rim and altering shots all night long, even when she wasn’t getting blocks. Then, it felt like she got every big defensive rebound when we needed one. So, those young kids really were gritty tonight. Rachel’s (Banham) line might not be impressive, but we haven’t played Rachel Banham 19 minutes and she more than held her own, pleased with her minutes also.”
