Sun Finish 3-0 Preseason Sweep

NEW YORK, New York. (May 7, 2017) – The Connecticut Sun finished the preseason unbeaten, cruising to a 79-57 win over the New York Liberty at Columbia University.

This was the final tune-up before the Sun, who finished 3-0 in exhibition games, host the Atlanta Dream at Mohegan Sun Arena next Saturday in the regular season opener at 7 p.m.

Morgan Tuck led the Sun with 20 points while veteran forward Lynetta Kizer had eight points and five rebounds in her first game with Connecticut. The Sun converted 23 New York turnovers into 25 points while jumping out to a 21-5 first-quarter lead.

“I liked the way the starters came out,” Sun head coach and general manager Curt Miller said. “They really played hard, really played focused. Now they’ve got to be able to do that for extended minutes, and they will play extended minutes in the regular season games.”

Tina Charles had 20 points and nine rebounds for the Liberty, who did not make a shot in the first quarter, scoring all five points at the free throw line. New York did not seriously threaten after the first quarter.

Rookie Brionna Jones had eight points off the bench for the Sun while Jasmine Thomas and Courtney Williams combined for 13 points and seven assists with just one turnover in limited minutes.
