Sun Acquire George From Mercury

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (February 2, 2018) – The Connecticut Sun announced it has acquired Cayla George from the Phoenix Mercury in exchange for a second-round pick (No. 21 overall) in the 2018 WNBA Draft.

“We are excited about the opportunity to obtain Cayla,” Sun General Manager and Head Coach Curt Miller said of the 6-foot-4 center. “She is a versatile and veteran post player who fits our style of play. She is an excellent face-up post player who helps create spacing at the offensive end of the floor. She is an underrated defensive rebounder and provides added length to our post game. She is widely considered an outstanding teammate, so she adds to our culture in the locker room.”

Originally signed as a free agent by the Phoenix Mercury on February 4, 2015, George appeared in 66 of the 68 regular season games she was available for in 2015 and 2017. She missed the 2016 season while representing Australia in the Rio Olympics.

On July 28, 2017, George set a WNBA record for most defensive rebounds by a bench player with 14 in a game at Chicago. It was also the most defensive rebounds by a Mercury player in a regulation game in franchise history.

This past offseason in Australia, George averaged 10.5 points and 9.4 rebounds while helping the Townsville Fire win the WNBL Grand Final. George ranked fourth in the league in average rebounds, and shot 44 percent from the field.

Season tickets for 2018 start as low as $22 per game and are available now. Call 1-877-SUN-TIXX for more information.
