UNCASVILLE, Conn. (August 13, 2015) – The Connecticut Sun announced today it has signed former Los Angeles Sparks center Nikki Greene to a seven-day contract.
With Chiney Ogwumike out for the year, and Elizabeth Williams expected to miss at least three more games because of a knee contusion, the Sun added Greene under the roster hardship provision.
A 2013 Penn State graduate, the 6-foot-4 Greene was the only player in program history to reach 1,000 points, 900 rebounds and 200 blocks. She ranks second all-time at Penn State with 215 blocked shots, and fourth in rebounds (994). She started a program-record 131 games.
Greene was selected with the 26th overall pick in the 2013 WNBA Draft by the Phoenix Mercury, but was waived in training camp. Last year, she made the Los Angeles Sparks roster, and appeared in 11 games. She played 38 minutes, scoring five points and grabbed 11 rebounds. This year, she was cut by the Sparks in training camp.
