UNCASVILLE, Conn. (April 29, 2016) – The Connecticut Sun have signed Brandie Baker to a training camp contract.
A four-year starter for Central Michigan, the 6-foot-0 guard finished her career 10th in points (1,281), third in assists (440), tied for fifth in steals (196) and blocks (82) and fifth in free throws made (347). She began her professional career with Mavort of the Ecuador league in 2013, and played in Brazil for Sampaio Basquete in 2015-16, averaging 5.3 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.
Baker was a All-Mid-American Conference Honorable Mention selection in 2011 and 2013 and was named the MAC Freshman of the Year in 2009. She led the Chippewas to their first MAC Tournament title and NCAA appearance since 1984 in 2013, garnering MAC All-Tournament Team honors.
She became the first CMU basketball player to participate in a WNBA training camp when she was invited to tryout with the Los Angeles Sparks in April of 2014. She was waived May 8th.
The Connecticut Sun open the preseason with games on May 4th at 7 p.m. against the Chicago Sky and May 5th at 7 p.m. against San Antonio. Those games are part of a two-day doubleheader. Atlanta will play the Stars at 5 p.m. on May 4th and the Dream and Sky will tipoff at 5 p.m. on May 5th.
