UNCASVILLE, Conn. (March 23, 2017) – The Connecticut Sun is looking for talented male practice players who can help the team prepare for WNBA games during the 2017 season.
“I have been fortunate during my years as a collegiate and professional head coach to have outstanding men’s practice squads,” Sun head coach and general manager Curt Miller said. “They are a valuable part of our team. They allow us, on a daily basis, to practice against bigger, stronger and faster players. The other benefit of men’s practice players is they allow you to conserve reps and provide needed rest while still conducting a productive practice.”
The tryout will be held at the Mohegan Tribal Government Building on April 15th, beginning at 12:30 and lasting up to 90 minutes. Registration begins at noon. The $20 registration fee includes a game voucher and t-shirt. Box lunches will be provided for all candidates, and those who make the practice team will receive a new pair of basketball shoes.
Candidates must be 18 years of age or older, and have high school and/or college basketball experience. Practices are usually from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on weekdays, so a flexible work schedule is required. For those who cannot attend weekday practices, the Sun also practices 11-1 on weekends when the schedule permits.
“These practice players take great pride in helping your team develop while volunteering their time and energy,” Miller said. “I have close relationships with many of my former practice players through the years and I can’t begin to thank them enough for their help and dedication.”
