Sun Assistants Poole and Koclanes Return for 2020 Campaign

The Connecticut Sun announced today that Brandi Poole and Chris Koclanes will return as assistant coaches for the 2020 season under General Manager and Head Coach Curt Miller. The team also announced Peter Feeney will join Mohegan Sun as the Team Operations Manager, becoming a full time member of the support staff for both the Sun and the New England Black Wolves.

“I am pleased to announce the return of my entire coaching staff for the 2020 season,” head coach Curt Miller said. “I believe strongly that teams thrive and grow when you have consistency and continuity throughout your coaching staff and franchise. We are motivated and look forward to building upon our incredible 2019 journey.”

Poole spent the last two seasons alongside Miller, helping the Sun to two of their last three 20+ win seasons, as well as a trip to the 2019 WNBA Finals. Poole joined the Sun after holding an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator position at Texas Tech University from 2015-18. Prior to that, Poole also spent time as Miller’s assistant at Bowling Green State University (2001-12) and Indiana University (2012-14).

“Brandi and I have a tremendous friendship and bond as we begin our 16th season together,” Miller added. “She is a huge reason why we have cut down 13 championship nets during our time together. Brandi is a tireless, loyal worker who brings a consistent positive energy to our team. She will continue to work directly with our talented post players and spearhead countless areas on and off the court.”

Koclanes returns to the Sun staff for the fifth season. During the 2019 campaign, he served as an assistant coach alongside Poole. Prior to being named assistant coach, he served as the team’s video and operations coordinator. Koclanes will continue to lead scouting efforts and work with members of the backcourt. Prior to joining the Sun full time in 2019, Koclanes also served as the video coordinator for USC’s women’s basketball as well as St. Joseph’s University.

“Chris was one of my first hires when arriving in Connecticut,” Miller stated. “He has played a huge role in our success on the court and oversees numerous areas within our team. Chris has an elite basketball mind and is one of the rising stars in our profession.

In addition to the return Poole and Koclanes, the Sun have also added Feeney as a full time Team Operations Manager. Feeney has held many roles with the organization over the last few seasons; most recently as the Basketball Operations/Assistant Video Coordinator. In his new role, Feeney will continue to assist the Sun with operations, travel, equipment and video needs as well as serve as an operations resource for the Black Wolves.

“Peter is a tremendous success story working his way up from a practice player to equipment manager to now a newly created full-time position with the Sun and Black Wolves,” head coach Miller said. “Peter not only serves as our operations director, but has also taken our analytics to a new level in his assistant video coordinator role. Peter will transition into his new full-time role after the completion of Boston University Women’s Basketball season, where he serves as video coordinator.”

The Connecticut Sun open the 2020 season with a home game against New York on Saturday, May 16 at 7pm in the Mohegan Sun Arena. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit
