Sun Ace First Test, Roll To 101-65 Victory

Uncasville — The Connecticut Sun tipped off the 2018 WNBA season with a 101-65 victory over the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday afternoon at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Alyssa Thomas led the way with 13 points and a career-high 17 rebounds, and also had six assists while Alex Bentley came off the bench to score a team-high 18 points. Jasmine Thomas (12 points, six assists) and Shekinna Stricklen (11 points) also scored in double figures.

Every Sun player scored as Connecticut (1-0) piled up 27 assists on 37 made field goals. The Sun were 11 of 21 (52.4 percent) from three-point range.

Las Vegas (0-1) had an early 14-4 lead thanks to a 14-2 run 3:40 of the game, but the Sun closed out the quarter on a 21-7 run and led 25-21 after the first quarter.

The Sun continued to roll in the second quarter, building its lead to 44-28 with 2:51 remaining in the half. Las Vegas never got closer than 10 the rest of the day.

Tamera Young led all scorers with 23 points for Las Vegas while rookie A’Ja Wilson had 14 points and 10 rebounds in her WNBA debut.
