Overseas Rundown Vol. 8

Uncasville, CT (December 27, 2021) – Overseas play tipped off last week with a EuroLeague game between Jonquel Jones and UMMC Ekaterinburg and their Group A opponent, Basket Lattes. UMMC Ekaterinburg extended their undefeated EuroLeague win streak to 10-0, beating fourth-ranked Basket Lattes, 108-53. Jones had 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals in nearly 18 minutes of play.

Dijonai Carrington and Elitzur Tel Aviv broke their losing streak this week, with a win over fifth-ranked Israeli League counterpart, Maccabi Urban, 77-71. Carrington led her team with 24 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and three steals. Elitzur Tel Aviv later lost to Israeli League opponent, Maccabi Haifa, 79-68. Carrington had 20 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and four steals on the night.

Brionna Jones, Alyssa Thomas and ZVVZ USK Praha matched up against eighth-ranked Group A EuroLeague adversary, KSC Szekszard, beating them 89-51. A. Thomas had nine points, six rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block; and B. Jones tallied 19 points, four rebounds, one assist and three steals on the night. B. Jones was named EuroLeague Women MVP for December.

Briann January and her Sopron Basket team lost an extremely close match to EuroLeague Group B opponent Beretta Famila Schio, 71-70, in overtime.  January had 18 points, two rebounds and six assists in the effort. Sopron Basket is now in a four-way tie for second place in Group B EuroLeague standings.

Natisha Hiedeman and Nadezhda beat EuroCup counterpart MBK Ruzomberok, 80-51, in Game 2 of the playoffs. Hiedeman had a double-double with 10 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and a steal in the win.

Jasmine Thomas and her CBK Mersin team handily beat Turkish League opponent, Ormanspor, 77-55. The road win moved CBK Mersin up to fourth place, which they now share with Bursa. J. Thomas had 11 points, six rebounds, six assists and two steals in the win.

Stephanie Jones and her Gorzow squad won a close match over Polish League adversary, Arka Gdynia, 62-59. S. Jones tallied 15 points, six rebounds, an assist and a block.

Connecticut Sun players return to action this week, starting with Carrington playing tomorrow. J. Thomas and S. Jones have games on December 29. Carrington finishes out 2021 overseas play with a game on December 30; and J. Thomas, S. Jones, Beatrice Mompremier, and January all open 2022 overseas play with games on January 2.
