Overseas Rundown Vol. 6

Uncasville, CT (December 13, 2021) – Beatrice Mompremier and Uni Gyor began the week with a win against Hungarian League counterpart, Cegledi, 79-70. Mompremier tallied a double-double with 22 points, 16 rebounds and two steals. Uni Gyor finished out a great week, beating Hungarian League opponent FCSM Csata, 80-72. Mompremier had 22 points, 11 rebounds, one assist and two blocks. Uni Gyor is fourth in Hungarian League standings with a 7-4 record.

Dijonai Carrington and her Elitzur Tel Aviv team met a formidable foe in Ramat Hasharon, the third-ranked team in the Israeli League standings. Carrington had another high-scoring game with 23 points, nine rebounds, an assist and two steals.

Natisha Hiedeman and her Nadezhda squad started their week with a match-up against Kaila Charles and Dynamo Novosibirsk in Russian League play. Dynamo Novosibirsk bested Nadezhda in overtime, 81-76. Hiedeman had 17 points, six rebounds, eight assists and two steals. Nadezhda finished out the week strong, beating tenth-ranked Russian League opponent, BC Samara, 94-65. At the time of their meeting, Samara was ranked seventh in league standings. However, the win catapulted Nadezhda into seventh place, with a 4-6 record. Hiedeman had 17 points, three rebounds, five assists and two steals in the effort.

Charles played extremely well in her match-up against Hiedeman, leading her team in scoring with 31 points. She had nine rebounds, two assists and two steals to round out her stat line. Charles and Dynamo Novosibirsk later beat eleventh-ranked Russian League opponent, Rostov, 72-62. Charles had 23 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals. After the win, Dynamo Novosibirsk moved up to fifth place in the Russian League standings with a 5-5 record on the season.

Brionna Jones, Alyssa Thomas and ZVVZ USK Praha defeated Group A EuroLeague opponent, Basket Lattes, 89-54. The home win improved ZVVZ USK Praha’s EuroLeague record to 6-2, helping them remain second in Group A standings. Jones had 15 points, seven rebounds, six assists, two steals and two blocks. A. Thomas had a spectacular game, nearly tallying a triple-double with 18 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists. B. Jones and ZVVZ USK Praha then met Czech League counterpart, SBS Ostrava. ZVVZ USK Praha crushed eighth-ranked SBS Ostrava, 118-36, to maintain their undefeated record (10-0) and stay atop the Czech League standings. B. Jones had  18 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block in the contest, notching her 1,000th career point in the Czech League.

Briann January and Sopron Basket lost a home game to Group B EuroLeague adversary Spar Girona, 68-53. The loss comes as a large disappointment, as Spar Girona has now surpassed Sopron Basket for the top spot in the EuroLeague Group B standings despite both teams having the same amount of points. January had 11 points, one rebound and three assists in the contest. January and Sopron finished the week strong, with a critical 90-74 win on the road against second-ranked Hungarian League rival, Atomeromu. January had a strong showing with 16 points, three rebounds, seven assists and two steals on the night. The win improved Sopron’s record to 12-0, keeping them at the top of the Hungarian League standings.

Jonquel Jones and UMMC Ekaterinburg met EuroLeague opponent TTT Riga at home to start their week. UMMC Ekaterinberg won the contest, 75-60, to improve to 8-0 in EuroLeague play. J. Jones had five points, one rebound, two assists, one steal and a block in 17 minutes of play. UMMC Ekaterinburg remain at the top of the Group A standings. UMMC Ekaterinburg then faced third-ranked Russian League rival, MBA Moscow. UMMC Ekaterinberg won 95-70. J. Jones had 17 points, seven rebounds, four assists and a steal in the effort. Despite having a perfect record, UMMC Ekaterinburg is currently second in Russian League play at 10-0, due to Dynamo Kursk having played more games.

Stephanie Jones and Gorzow lost to third-ranked Polish League opponent Polkowice, 78-73. S. Jones had 13 points, one rebound and an assist. Gorzow is currently seventh in league standings with a 4-5 record.

Jasmine Thomas, now representing seventh-ranked Turkish League competitor, CBK Mersin had a strong first showing with her new team. Despite CBK Mersin falling to fifth-ranked Nesibe Aydin, 84-76, J. Thomas had 13 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals, demonstrating that new system should not give her any problems.

Sun players are back in action again this week, starting with Carrington playing today. J. Jones and UMMC Ekaterinburg will play EuroLeague opponent Umana Reyer at 2:30pm EST on December 14. Hiedeman and Nadezhda will play EuroCup opponent MBK Ruzomberok at 11:00 A.M. EST; B. Jones, A. Thomas and ZVVZ USK Praha will face EuroLeague rival MBA Moscow at 1:00 P.M. EST; and J. Thomas and CBK Mersin will play EuroCup counterpart Lointek Gernika at 2:00 P.M. EST on December 15. January and Sopron Basket face EuroLeague opponent VBW Arka Gdynia at 1:15 P.M. EST on December 16. J. Jones, J. Thomas, Charles, Mompremier, Hiedeman, A. Thomas, B. Jones and January all play on December 18. And S. Jones will round out the week’s games on December 19.
