Uncasville, CT (November 29, 2021) – Last week’s overseas play was tipped off by Dijonai Carrington and her Elitzur Tel Aviv squad. Carrington posted huge numbers in a double-double performance with 30 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and a steal in the contest. However, despite her offensive onslaught, Elitzur Tel Aviv lost to ninth-ranked Israeli league opponent, Hertzeliya, 85-73.
Jonquel Jones and UMMC Ekaterinburg had another strong week of games, in both EuroLeague and Russian league play. First, UMMC Ekaterinburg toppled 6th-ranked EuroLeague opponent, MBA Moscow, 84-63. Jones had 17 points, 14 rebounds, one assist and one block in the contest, helping her team improve to a 6-0 EuroLeague record. Later in the week, UMMC Ekaterinburg faced sixth-ranked Russian league opponent, Nadezhda, beating them 80-59. Jones had another double-double with 15 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks.
Natisha Hiedeman and her Nadezhda team began the week with a 73-36 victory over fourth-ranked EuroCup adversary, Bydgoszcz. Nadezhda improved their record to 5-0 behind Hiedeman’s performance of 20 points, five rebounds, two assists, three steals and one block. However, Russian League play proved a tougher challenge as Hiedeman and Nadezhda faced Jones and first-ranked UMMC Ekaterinburg. As previously stated, Nadezhda fell to UMMC Ekaterinburg, 80-59. Hiedeman finished the match with 13 points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals.
Beatrice Mompremier and Uni Gyor started their week with a tough loss against first-ranked Prometey in Group B of the EuroCup standings, 94-68. Mompremier had 16 points and 11 rebounds. For their second game, Mompremier had a great performance in Uni Gyor’s win against fourth-ranked Hungarian league opponent, PEAC. Mompremier finished the night with a double-double of 19 points, 11 rebounds, one assist, one steal and two blocks; helping her team move up to fifth place in Hungarian league standings.
Jasmine Thomas and Fenerbahce beat eleventh-ranked Turkish league challenger, Elazig, in a 105-46 blowout to improve their record to 6-0. Thomas had 19 points, five rebounds, two assists and four steals in the contest.
Stephanie Jones and her Gorzow team had a tough 76-73 loss to third-ranked EuroCup opponent, Gorizont, to start their week. S. Jones had 10 points, eight rebounds, one assist and a steal during the contest. However, Gorzow finished the week on a high note with a 72-69 home win over tenth-ranked Polish League rival, Poznan. S. Jones had four points and three rebounds in the win.
Kaila Charles and Dinamo-Guvd Novosibirsk beat third-ranked Russian League opponent, Nika, in a 92-81 win. This win moved Novosibirsk up two spots to sixth place in Russian League standings. Charles had 20 points, five rebounds, eight assists and a block in the victory.
Alyssa Thomas, Brionna Jones, and their ZVVZ USK Praha team had a huge week of wins with some spectacular performances from Connecticut Sun players. To begin the week’s play, ZVVZ USK Praha crushed fifth-ranked EuroLeague counterpart TTT Riga in a decisive 103-52 victory. A. Thomas had 20 points, nine rebounds, four assists and a steal; while teammate B. Jones posted 22 points, four rebounds and two blocks in the effort. ZVVZ USK Praha is second in EuroLeague Group A standings. Their second game of the week proved their most important test of the Czech League thus far, as ZVVZ USK Praha faced second-ranked rival Zabiny Brno. Both teams were undefeated at the start of the match, but ZVVZ USK Praha came out on top with a 91-69 win. B. Jones had a stellar performance with 30 points, 11 rebounds, two steals and two blocks, and A. Thomas contributed with a double-double of her own as she posted 17 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block.
Connecticut Sun overseas players will return to action starting with Carrington playing today. J. Jones, J. Thomas, Hiedeman, Mompremier, A. Thomas and B. Jones will be playing in the EuroLeague and EuroCup games on December 1st. J. Jones and UMMC Ekaterinberg will be playing Perfumeria Avenida at 9:00 A.M. EST. J. Thomas and Fenerbahce will match-up against Dynamo Kursk at 11:00 A.M. EST. Hiedeman and Nadezhda will play Olympiacos S.F.P. at 11:30 A.M. EST. Mompremier and Uni Gyor play ACS Sepsci-SIC at 12:00 P.M. EST. A. Thomas, B. Jones and ZVVZ USK Praha will face Umana Reyer at 1:00 P.M. EST. S. Jones will play in a EuroCup match-up on December 2nd against CBK Mersin at 12:00 P.M. EST. Hiedeman, A. Thomas, B. Jones, and Charles will play on December 4th, and J. Jones will round out the week’s play on December 5th.
