Uncasville, CT (November 22, 2021) – Last week’s overseas play saw great performances from Connecticut Sun players. To start the week, Brionna Jones’ and Alyssa Thomas’ USK Praha team beat Czech rival KP Brno with a score of 101-65. Jones had 18 points, seven rebounds, one assist and a steal during the contest. Thomas added 16 points, nine rebounds, five assists and one steal to the effort. In USK Praha’s second game of the week against league adversary Loko Trutnov, Jones had another double-digit performance of 21 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Thomas had a well-rounded night as well with seven points, nine rebounds, five assists and three steals. USK Praha beat Loko Trutnov, 126-42, maintaining their first-place ranking with a record of 7-0.
Jonquel Jones and her UMMC Ekaterinburg team faced Russian league opponent Enisey. UMMC Ekaterinburg, who is top-ranked in the league with a 7-0 record, bested 5th ranked Enisey 76-44 in the match-up. J. Jones had 14 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and three blocks on the night. In their second match of the week, J. Jones had yet another double-double with 15 points, 12 rebounds, one assist and two blocks in 24 minutes of play. UMMC Ekaterinburg beat Dynamo-Guvd Novosibirsk, 109-57.
Natisha Hiedeman and her sixth-ranked Nadezhda team started their week strong with a decisive 88-55 win over Russian league opponent, Spartak Noginsk. Hiedeman had 13 points, six rebounds, two assists and five steals in 21 minutes of play. Nadezhda’s second game of the week proved a more challenging test as they fell to league competitor Enisey, 81-77, in a very close battle. Hiedeman led her team with 25 points, one rebound, five assists and three steals.
Dijonai Carrington’s 5th ranked Elitzur Tel Aviv team fell to 4th ranked Israeli league opponent, Neve David Ramla, 73-65. Carrington, however, played very well leading her team in scoring with 23 points. She rounded out her scoring performance with nine rebounds, one assist and three steals on the night.
Stephanie Jones and her 7th ranked team, Gorzow, lost to Polish league challenger, Bydgoszcz, with an 80-70 result. S. Jones had a double-double performance with 24 points, 12 rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Beatrice Mompremier’s 6th ranked Uni Gyor team fell to ninth-ranked team Ujbuda in an 87-65 loss. Mompremier, however, played well with an effort of 19 points, nine rebounds and one assist in 32 minutes of play.
Connecticut Sun players will return to action this week with Carrington playing November 22nd; J. Jones, Mompremier, J. Thomas, A. Thomas and B. Jones playing on November 24th; S. Jones and Hiedeman playing on Thanksgiving Day; B. Jones and A. Thomas playing November 27th; and S. Jones, J. Thomas, Mompremier, and Kaila Charles playing on November 28th, with a match-up between J. Jones’ UMMC Ekaterinburg and Hiedeman’s Nadezhda rounding out the week that same day.
