Overseas Round Up Vol. 5

UNCASVILLE, CT (December 9, 2019) – Another busy week in the books for the Connecticut Sun and their respective overseas teams.

Jonquel Jones and UMMC Ekaterinburg started play off on Wednesday, Dec. 4 against Bourges Basket. UMMC defeated Bourges 86-47 in EuroLeague competition and Jones tallied a team-high 13 rebounds and nine points.

Following Jones in EuroLeague play, Morgan Tuck and Cukurova faced Castors Braine. Cukurova was defeated 90-59 by Braines, but received 13 points and nine rebounds from Tuck. This marked the third straight game she has led Cukurova in points. Tuck and Cukurova also competed on Saturday, Dec. 7 against Kayseri in the Turkish Basketball League. Cukurova pulled out an 82-76 league win where Tuck contributed 19 points and went 8-of-11 from the field.

Courtney Williams and Izmit also played in some Turkish league play on Saturday, Dec. 7. Izmit pulled out a 90-77 victory over Canik Belediye. Williams scored 14 points, recorded eight rebounds and dished out five assists.

USK Praha, Bri Jones and Alyssa Thomas were also in action on Wednesday, Dec. 4 in the EuroLeague. USK faced Reyer Venezia and came up with a 77-50 win in which Jones tallied 16 points and nine rebounds and Thomas added 14 points and seven rebounds. To close out the week, USK grabbed a win over Zabiny in the Czech Basketball League. In the 108-76 win, Jones posted a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds and Thomas notched 12 points and eight rebounds. USK remains undefeated and first in the ZBL.

Natisha Hiedeman and Lulea Basket also took part in action on the week. On Thursday, Dec. 5, Lulea fell to ACS Sepsi 64-48 in EuroCup action. Hiedeman finished with six points, five rebounds and three assists. Lulea then defeated Wetterbygden 71-58 on Saturday where the team picked up its sixth straight win in the Swedish Basketball League.

This week’s action includes a EuroLeague matchup between Cukurova and UMMC as well as a USK-Castors Braine game on Wednesday, Dec. 11. Lulea will face Visby on Friday, Dec. 13, and the following day, Izmit, UMMC, USK and Cukurova will all compete in their respective team’s league.
