A very successful week for the Sun in this week’s overseas competition.
On Saturday, Mar. 7, Briann January’s team, Sopron, grabbed a 54-42 victory over KSC Szekszárd in the Hungarian Cup Final. January recorded 11 points and four rebounds in her team’s ninth finals victory.
To begin the week, Natisha Hiedeman and Lulea Basket dominated IK EOS, 89-58 in SBL action. Hiedeman posted 13 points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal in her first game of the week. In Sunday’s contest against Wetterbygden, Hiedeman recorded 23 points, one rebound and one assist in the 86-62 victory.
Jonquel Jones and Jasmine Thomas’ teams also captured two wins apiece this week. Jones faced teammate DeWanna Bonner in a Russian league matchup and walked away with the 100-88 victory. UMMC is now 4-1 against Dynamo Kursk this season. Bonner recorded 19 points and six rebounds in the loss. UMMC also picked up a 2-53 win over Hope during the week.
Jasmine Thomas and Gorzow defeated Torun, 86-64 on Wednesday and on Saturday they defeated Widzew Lodz, 82-72. Thomas posted five points, eight rebounds and eight assists in the first win of the week and six points, four rebounds and three assists in the second.
