Overseas Round Up 2

To kick off the season in South Korea, Jonquel Jones and Alyssa Thomas faced off against each other on October 29th. Jones and the Woori Bank Wibee came out on top 70-62, thanks in part to her 22 point, 20 rebound performance. Thomas also notched a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds in the loss for the Samsung Life Blue Minx.

Jasmine Thomas and Allison Hightower also each  made their overseas debut this past week in Israel. Thomas had nine points, eight assists, five rebounds and two steals as Ramat Hasharon Electra defeated Maccabi Raanana 84-67 on October 31st. For Maccabi Bnot Ashdod, Hightower scored 14 points, dished out six assists and grabbed four rebounds in a 76-71 victory over Bnot Hertzeliya that same day.

In Turkey, Alex Bentley is averaging 18.0 points, 5.0 assists and 1.5 rebounds in two games for Adana ASKI Mersin. On October 29th, she had 19 points, four assists and two rebounds in a 72-55 victory over Samsun. She is joined in Turkey by Courtney Williams, who is averaging 12.5 points and 3.0 rebounds in two games for Girne Universitesi. On October 29th, the Sun guard had eight points and two rebounds in a 76-72 loss to Mersin.

Rounding out the Sun trio in the country is Shekinna Stricklen. In two Turkish League games for Fenerbache, she is averaging 10.0 points and 4.0 rebounds, including eight points and two rebounds in a 76-64 win over Istanbul Universitesi on October 30th. The squad is also in the EuroLeague pool this season, and Stricklen had 16 points, four assists and two rebounds in a 69-63 victory over Lattes Montpiellier on November 2nd.

In China, Chiney Ogwumike is averaging a double-double of 33.4 points and 14.7 rebounds in seven games for Henan Yichuan. The Sun forward is shooting 62.6 percent (97-of-155) from the floor for the Chinese squad, which is 6-1 on the year. On November 1st, she had 32 points and 21 rebounds to go along with two assists in a 78-65 win over Shanghai Dahua.

In Russia, Alba Torrens is averaging 11.7 points and 4.3 rebounds in three Russian League games for UMMC Ekaterinburg, including a seven point, eight rebound performance in a 114-41 win over MBA on October 30th. In two EuroLeague games, the Spanish forward is averaging 14.0 points and 3.5 assists. She had 12 points and two assists in UMMC’s 82-61 win over Uniqua on November 2nd.
