Miller’s Matchups: Volume 6

Hey Sun fans,

I hope you are enjoying your week and counting down the days to the start of the 2017 WNBA season. We were happy to recently announce the re-signing of our starting back court of Jasmine Thomas and Alex Bentley to multi-year contracts.  Our training camp roster is rounding out and we are excited about the battles that will take place before the final roster is announced in early May.

The college schedule is filled with tremendous conference matchups this week. There are countless games that will have a major impact on the final regular season standings. I have decided to concentrate on Sunday’s games to share my thoughts and opinions this week.

Mid Major Clashes:
Dayton vs. George Washington
The two recent powers in the A-10 square off in this important battle. I know that our own Jonquel Jones will be pulling for the Jennifer Rizzotti coached Colonials.  It was only a year ago when Jonquel was leading the nation in rebounds before becoming an important piece of the Sun future.

Elon vs. JMU
The game features the two best teams in the Colonial Athletic Association. WNBA fans will remember the name Charlotte Smith, who is doing a tremendous job coaching the Elon Phoenix. JMU features Precious Hall, one of the elite scorers in all of Division 1 women’s basketball. Hall is a red-shirt senior and on the radar of all the WNBA teams.

Power 5 Showdown:
UCLA vs. Oregon State
This Sunday PAC-12 clash features two nationally ranked teams trying to keep momentum heading toward the postseason. The game not only features a great point guard battle but also two very talented junior post players that are gaining more and more national recognition. Watch OSU’s 6’5″ German native Marie Gulich battle UCLA’s active 6’4″ Monique Billings.

Well wishes to all while you enjoy another week of great college women’s basketball.
