Connecticut Sun Teams up to “Unite the Vote” in Voter Registration Challenge

Nine WNBA teams will round up fans to register to vote, team leading in registrants receive 200 care packages for those in need

Uncasville, CT (August 18, 2020) – The Connecticut Sun announced today that the team has joined a voter registration challenge organized by the Washington Mystics called, “Unite the Vote.” The initiative is in partnership with When We All Vote, a nonprofit, non-partisan organization with a mission to increase participation in every election. “Unite the Vote” is a friendly competition among nine WNBA teams to see which organization can get the most voters registered.

In addition to the Sun and Mystics, the Atlanta Dream, Chicago Sky, Las Vegas Aces, Minnesota Lynx, New York Liberty, Phoenix Mercury and Seattle Storm are all participating in the challenge.

“When We All Vote” has provided each time with a unique registration link and will provide real-time data from the registrations and upload the information to a leaderboard showcasing the standings of the nine teams. Fans participating in “Unite The Vote” are asked to visit www.UniteTheVoteChallenge.com and register using their favorite team’s specialized voting portal.

Motivation behind joining the “Unite The Vote” challenge stems from the Connecticut Sun’s Change Can’t Wait social justice platform. Voting is one of four pillars of the platform that also includes Education, Community Outreach and Activation. Under the voting pillar, the Sun has vowed to provide information on polling locations, voter registration and candidate information while also assisting local organizations in getting voters to polling locations.

At the conclusion of the challenge, the team with the most registered voters will receive 200 care packages for distribution in underserved communities from the other eight teams. If Connecticut should sit atop of the leader board on September 18, the team plans to work with United Way of Southeastern Connecticut to distribute the packages to those in need.

Connecticut Sun fans can head directly to https://www.whenweallvote.org/sun/ to register under the team’s personalized page. Fans are also encouraged to share the link with friends and family to help push their favorite team further up the ladder and more importantly, get them registered to vote.
