UNCASVILLE, Conn. (April 23, 2017) – The Connecticut Sun opened training camp Sunday, and will conduct the first practice of the season Monday morning.
Second-year coach Curt Miller will guide the Sun into its 15th season. Connecticut was one of the hottest teams in the league to end 2016, finishing 11-7 in the second half of the season. Nine players return from last year, including four of the top five scorers. Alex Bentley, Jasmine Thomas, Alyssa Thomas, Jonquel Jones, Morgan Tuck, Rachel Banham, Courtney Williams, Shekinna Stricklen and Kelly Faris are all back for the Sun.
Former Sun players Allison Hightower and Kayla Pedersen return to the team while the remaining camp roster includes veteran newcomers Lynetta Kizer, Danielle Adams, Jen Hamson and Reshanda Gray. Rookies in camp include the NCAA field goal percentage leader the last two years, Brionna Jones, Shayla Cooper and Jessica January. Kizer, Adams and Pedersen will arrive at camp after completing overseas commitments.
