Alyssa Thomas Named WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week- 6/6/23

Uncasville, CT (June 6, 2023) – Connecticut Sun forward Alyssa Thomas was named the WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week, the league announced today. This marks the seventh time in Thomas’s ten-year professional career that she takes home Eastern Conference Player of the Week honors, the first since July 25, 2022.

 

During the week of May 29-June 4, Thomas nearly averaged a triple-double with 14.0 ppg, 12.0 rpg and 9.7 apg as the Sun went 3-0 in regular season action. Most notably, she broke the Connecticut Sun record for most assists in a single game with 16 assists in Connecticut’s 89-84 win over Minnesota on Thursday. Thomas also broke the franchise record for most assists in a single half with 10 assists in the first half that night, ending the game with a stat line of 16 points, nine rebounds, 16 assists, and one block.

 

In the Sun’s 81-78 win over the Indiana Fever on Tuesday, May 30, Thomas tallied a double-double with 13 points, 17 rebounds and seven assists. To close out the week, the 6-2 forward recorded another double-double with 13 points, 10 rebounds and six assists in the Sun’s 80-74 victory over the Dallas Wings on Sunday, June 4. Thomas leads the league in double-doubles this season with six .

 

Thomas has played her entire WNBA career in Connecticut and has already hit major milestones this season. On Sunday, June 4 against Dallas, she became the franchise leader in free throws made (693) and moved into third overall in games played in Connecticut Sun history (246). Thomas also became the first Sun player in franchise history to earn 20+ points, 10+ rebounds, 5+ assists and 2+ steals with one or fewer turnovers when she finished with 22 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and two steals in the 88-81 win over Washington on Tuesday, May 23.
