Sun Overseas Round Up – 4/21/16

Veteran Connecticut Sun forward Camille Little and Ragusa will open quarterfinal play in the Italian League playoffs against Parma Thursday.

Ragusa finished third during the regular season with a 21-5 record, and Little averaged 15.4 points and 6.3 rebounds. Parma (12-14) finished sixth, and was 0-2 against Ragusa.

It has already been an historic season for Ragusa, which won the Italian Cup for the first time with a 70-67 victory over host Familia Schio back on April 4th.

Little closed out the regular season with 18 points and six rebounds in a 67-56 loss to Venezia on April 10th.

In Turkey, Aneika Henry (14.3 points, 10.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists) had 12 points and 14 rebounds as Mersin completed a sweep of Istanbul University with a 77-74 win on April 13. Henry had 10 points and 10 rebounds in a 78-72 Game 1 victory on April 10th. Mersin advances to play Hatay in the semifinals, which begin Saturday.

Elsewhere in Turkey, Alex Bentley finished the season averaging 12 points, 2.3 assists and 2.7 rebounds for Gelistirenler, which was swept in the quarterfinals of the Turkish League playoffs by top-seeded Fenerbahce.

Also in Turkey, Alyssa Thomas (16 points, 10.1 rebounds, 2.5 assists) and Kelsey Bone (14 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.5 assists) closed out their season with Yakin Dogu (10-16). In the final game of the season, on April 6th, Thomas had 22 points and 13 rebounds while Bone had 16 points and eight rebounds in an 85-81 win over Canik Bank.

In South Korea, Shekinna Stricklen helped Woori Hansae (28-7) collect its fourth straight WKBL Championship, averaging 18 points and 6.8 rebounds during the season. Woori Hansae swept Hanabank 3-0 to win the title.

In Israel, Jasmine Thomas completed her season averaging 16.5 points, 7.2 rebounds and 6.1 assists as Bnot Hertzeliya reached the semifinals of the Israeli League tournament before losing in four games to Maccabi Ashdod.

In Austria, Kelly Faris completed her season with Post SV Wien, which reached the Central Europe Women League before falling to Alba Lulia, 71-55 in March. Faris had 21 points in a 63-59 semifinal win over MBK Ruzomb.
