Sun Take Flight Against Wings

Uncasville – Alyssa Thomas had a season-high 23 points while Jonquel Jones finished with 20 points and 17 rebounds as the Connecticut Sun beat the Dallas Wings 93-87 at Mohegan Sun Arena on Wednesday evening.

With the victory, the Sun improved to 20-10, and are assured of no lower than a fifth seed in the WNBA playoffs. The third and fourth seeds earn first-round byes.

It was the 18th double-double of the season for Jones, while Thomas posted her fourth 20-point game of the season. Jasmine Thomas added 17 points and four assists while Shekinna Stricklen was 3 of 6 from three-point range on the way to 14 points.

The game featured 20 lead changes and six ties in the first half, and was close throughout. The Sun led 69-66 entering the fourth quarter, and used a 14-4 run to open an 83-70 lead with 3:51 remaining in the game.

Dallas (14-17) rallied to within four points twice in the final seconds, but Jasmine Thomas and Shekinna Stricklen combined to make six straight free throws as the Sun held off the Wings.

Skylar Diggins-Smith (19 points, six assists) led five Dallas players in double figures while Allisha Gray (18 points) and Theresa Plaisance (17 points, seven rebounds) also had big games for the Wings.

The Sun play their final home game of the regular season Friday, hosting the Chicago Sky at 7 p.m. on Fan Appreciation Night. Get tickets
