Sun Overseas Round Up – 12/22/15

Connecticut Sun teammates were on opposite sides of a key matchup in Italy, where Camille Little and Ragusa handed Kayla Pedersen’s Lucca team its first loss of the season, 73-67, on December 19th.

Little, who is averaging 16.7 points and 5.5 rebounds in Italy, had 14 points and four rebounds. Pedersen (14 points, 7.8 rebounds per game) had 12 points and seven rebounds for Lucca. Both teams are now tied for first place at 10-1 in the Italian League.

In Israel on December 18th, Jasmine Thomas barely missed a triple double for Bnot Hertzeliya, collecting 20 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds in a 79-73 win over Ramat Hasharon. The victory ended a five-game winning streak for Ramat Hasharon. Three nights later, on December 21st, Thomas had 17 points, 10 rebounds and four assists in an 80-65 loss to Maccabi Ashdod.  Thomas is averaging 16.9 points, 7.3 rebounds and six assists.

On December 20th in Turkey, Elizabeth Williams piled up 14 points and seven rebounds as Istanbul Universitesi improved to 7-2 overall with a 75-61 victory over Hatay (6-3). Williams is averaging 16.3 points and 11.9 rebounds per game.

Istanbul Universitesi is second in the Turkish League behind Abdullah Gul (8-1), which rolled to an 83-68 win over Adana ASKI on December 19th. Williams’ former Duke teammate, Chelsea Gray, is averaging 12.5 points, 4.5 assists and 4.4 rebounds for Abdullah Gul. She had eight points, five rebounds and four assists in the win over Adana.

Elsewhere in Turkey, Alyssa Thomas had 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists while Kelsey Bone had 11 points and six rebounds for Yakin Dogu (4-5) on December 20th. It was not enough to avert a 78-69 loss to Fenebahce. Thomas is averaging 18 points, 11 rebounds and 2.6 assists while Bone is averaging 13.6 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists.

Also in Turkey, Alex Bentley had 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting for Gelistirenler SK, which dropped to 2-7 with a 75-59 loss to Canik Bld on December 19th.

In South Korea, Shekinna Stricklen had a pair of double-figure scoring games as first-place Woori Bank Hansae improved to 12-2 with wins of 80-57 over S-Birds on December 19th and 57-54 over Bichumi on December 17th.

Stricklen, who is averaging 18.1 points and 7.7 rebounds, had 22 points and six rebounds with four made threes in the win over S-Birds. She had 12 points against Bichumi.

Finally, in Poland, Nikki Greene had nine rebounds as Polkowice cruised to a 54-47 win over Energa Torun on December 20th. Greene is averaging 9.1 points and 10.3 rebounds.
