Sun Open Preseason

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (May 2, 2017) – The Connecticut Sun opened the preseason with an 81-72 victory over the Chicago Sky at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Among players battling for roster spots, forward Danielle Adams had three made threes on the way to a team-high 12 points while 6-foot-7 center Jennifer Hamson had six of Connecticut’s 11 blocked shots.

A total of 14 players saw significant minutes for the Sun, which outscored Chicago 23-11 in the fourth quarter. Adams had nine points and a pair of threes in the last 10 minutes, and Connecticut did not play a starter in that final quarter.

“I thought we accomplished what we wanted to,” Sun head coach and general manager Curt Miller said.  “Every single player out of the 14 played double-figure minutes. Nobody played more than 17 minutes, so we got to look at a lot of combinations, a lot of different patterns. Now, the film won’t lie. There will be good things that we learn from the film, there will be disappointing things that we need to grow and get better on. But ultimately, we came in looking to play a lot of people and look at a lot of combinations and rotations and we got that accomplished.”

Among the starters, Morgan Tuck hit a pair of threes on the way to eight points in 12 minutes while Jonquel Jones had eight points and seven rebounds on 4-of-6 shooting. Forward Alyssa Thomas also had eight points and five rebounds.
