Sun Fall To Sparks

Uncasville, Conn. — Jonquel Jones and Alyssa Thomas each recorded double-doubles on Tuesday night at Mohegan Sun Arena, but it was not enough as the Connecticut Sun fell to the Los Angeles Sparks, 87-79.

It was the second straight loss for the Sun (6-7).

The leading rebounder in the WNBA, Jones had 17 rebounds to go along with 13 points, collecting her seventh double-double of the season. Thomas added 13 points and 11 rebounds. The pair recorded double-doubles in the same game for the second time this year. They did it on May 28th at Chicago.

Jasmine Thomas added 19 points and three assists while Courtney Williams had 14 points.

The defending WNBA champions shot 63.2 percent in the first quarter while building a 27-17 lead. Nneka Ogwumike was 8 of 8 from the field to start the game as the Sparks (10-3) set the tone early.

Connecticut rallied repeatedly throughout the rest of the night, but never quite recovered from that first quarter. Trailing just 45-39 at the half, the Sun were in contention at the break.

But Los Angeles opened the third quarter with an 8-0 run, eventually outscoring the Sun 18-5 over the first 5:32 of the second half. The Sun would rally, but could never get closer seven points the rest of the way.
