Sun Fall To Sparks

Los Angeles – Jonquel Jones set a new WNBA single-season rebound record while also collecting her 20th double-double of the season during an 81-70 loss to the Los Angeles Sparks on Sunday at the Staples Center.

The Sun closed out the regular season 21-13 and will host a second-round playoff game at Mohegan Sun Arena on September 10th at 3 p.m.

With 8:50 remaining in the third quarter, Jones pulled down her sixth rebound of the night, surpassing the WNBA single-season rebounding record, set by Tina Charles in 2010. Jones wrapped up the regular season with 403 rebounds for the record.

Courtney Williams led the Sun with 19 points. Alyssa Thomas and Morgan Tuck each added nine points in the loss for Connecticut. It was Tuck’s best scoring output of the season since returning from a knee contusion on July 12th.

The Sparks (26-8) were led by Nneka Ogqumike with 21 points and Candice Parker, who scored 12 points and pulled down 14 rebounds. Los Angeles did not trail in the game.

The Sun have wrapped up the No. 4 seed in the WNBA Playoffs. Connecticut’s opponent in the second round will be determined by first round games played on September 6 and 7.
