Sun Dominates The Sky, 93-72

Uncasville – The Connecticut Sun broke open a close game with a 22-4 run that bridged the end of the third quarter and start of the fourth, pulling away for a 93-72 victory over the Chicago Sky at Mohegan Sun Arena on Tuesday night.

Alyssa Thomas had 20 points and nine rebounds to lead the Sun while Jasmine Thomas (17 points, eight assists), Courtney Williams (17 points, six assists) and Jonquel Jones (12 points, 10 rebounds) contributed heavily as the Sun improved to 13-9.

Alex Bentley had nine points and a pair of assists off the bench.

In the third quarter, when this game turned decidedly in Connecticut’s favor, Alyssa Thomas had 12 points and four rebounds while Jasmine Thomas had 10 points and four assists.

The Sky (8-14) trailed 56-53 with 2:55 remaining in the third quarter when Alyssa Thomas started a 13-3 run with a driving layup. Jasmine Thomas then hit a jumper and a three-pointer, and Jones made a three – she was a perfect three-for-three from behind the arc, tying a career high – before Jasmine Thomas scored on a layup.

Free throws by Alyssa Thomas – she was a perfect 8 of 8 from the line – and Bentley made it 69-57 after three quarters.

The fourth quarter began with a pair of baskets from Alyssa Thomas, a layup from Lynetta Kizer and a three from Bentley.

Suddenly, it was 78-57, and Connecticut was in firm control of the game.

Jones collected her 12th double-double of the season. The Sun had a season-high 27 assists and 10 of 12 Sun players scored.

WNBA All-Star three-point champion Allie Quigley had 20 points to lead the Sky while Jess Breland and Keisha Hampton each had 12 points.
