Miller’s Matchups

Happy New Year Sun fans!

I hope you all had a safe and happy holiday season. The New Year marks the start of the excitement of regular season conference match-ups in college basketball. I received numerous holiday greetings and well wishes, but there is no doubt the most commonly asked question I heard during the winter months had to do with which games I would be attending or which match-ups I was most looking forward to.

With that in mind, I thought I would share my thoughts and opinions each week with you on intriguing match-ups across the college landscape.

Let’s start with great match-ups in the ACC and the PAC-12 this Sunday.

The ACC has two games matching Top 15 teams.

#13 Duke at #6 Florida State
The surging Blue Devils will look for their 11th straight win and fourth over a Top 20 team while FSU will look to continue building momentum after a nice bounce-back win over North Carolina.

#7 Notre Dame at #14 Miami
If you like guard play this will be a great game. The talented Notre Dame backcourt led by senior Lindsay Allen and versatile Arike Ogunbowale will take on the veteran and talented Miami backcourt of Jessica Thomas and Adrienne Motley. Will Brianna Turner be the difference in the game?

The PAC-12 also has two games matching ranked opponents.

#9 UCLA at #12 Washington
Speaking of guard play, who isn’t excited to watch two of the premier point guards square off in this game…Kelsey Plum vs. Jordin Canada. But that isn’t the only fun match-up. Chantel Osahor-Monique Billings will be talked about throughout the game.

#16 Oregon State at #10 Stanford
The last Top 20 match-up is not only intriguing, but an important early game in the PAC-12 standings. I know WNBA fans will be taking a close look at OSU’s Sydney Wiese and Stanford’s Erica McCall.

Enjoy the games Sun fans!
