Morgan Tuck and Layshia Clarendon finished off a memorable September on Sunday in Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain, where the USA Basketball Women’s World Cup Team won its third consecutive FIBA World Cup gold medal with a 73-56 victory over Australia at Santiago Martin Arena.
The Connecticut Sun teammates were with the USA on every step of the journey, from the start of training camp back on September 3 in Columbia, South Carolina through exhibition games in Bridgeport and Washington, DC., a three-game exhibition tournament in Antibes, France, and – finally – the FIBA World Cup in Spain.
Tuck and Clarendon officially learned they were on the final roster on September 19th, following the exhibition tournament in France. They went on to help the USA win a third straight World Cup gold medal and a 10th championship overall.
With Sunday’s victory, the USA Women earned its 10th FIBA World Cup gold medal while also clinching an automatic spot in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
