Sun To Host Pride Night

NBA Cares Ambassador Jason Collins To Speak At Halftime

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (May 25, 2017) – The Connecticut Sun will celebrate diversity and equality with Pride Night on June 10th when the Atlanta Dream visit Mohegan Sun Arena at 7 p.m.

The month of June is recognized as Pride Month around the WNBA and serves as a primary platform for the league.

Former NBA star and current NBA Cares Ambassador Jason Collins will address the crowd at halftime. A 13-year NBA veteran, Collins became the first openly gay athlete to play in any of the four major North American professional sports leagues after he came out in 2013.

“The WNBA has always represented diversity and inclusion,” said Vice President of Sports Amber Cox. “Our fans embody every segment of the population and come together 17 nights a summer based on a common passion – the Connecticut Sun. Our goal will always be to ensure that every person who enters Mohegan Sun Arena – no matter race, gender or sexual orientation – feels welcome. We’re thrilled to have Jason join us and are proud to partner with OutCT, an organization that is doing tremendous work on behalf of equality in our community.”

Sun fans will have the opportunity to celebrate pride in a variety of ways through special ticket packages. For $60, fans will receive a game ticket, a limited edition Sun Pride t-shirt as well as entry into a special postgame pool party on the Mohegan Sun Pool Deck. For $30, fans will receive a game ticket as well as the limited edition t-shirt. Tickets can be purchased by visiting www.bitly.com/sunpride17 and using the code OUTCT.

Sun season ticket holders can purchase the Pride Night package of t-shirt and party entry for just $20 by calling the Sun office at 877-SUN-TIXX.

The postgame pool party, sponsored by Absolut, will feature appearances by members of the Sun roster as well as Collins. All will be available for photos and autographs at the exclusive event.

A portion of all ticket packages sold will go toward funding OutCT’s after-school programs. The program provides monthly meeting space where gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth can gather, socialize, network, have discussions and build peer support.
